Donald Smith

August 29, 1943 — October 24, 2021

Donald M. Smith, age 78, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Emory.

Don was born on August 29, 1943 to Clay Smith and Aileen Mowdy Smith Johnson in Madden, Mississippi. He was married to his wife, Corene Kelso, for 57 years.  He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, his county as a Rains ISD School board member and Rains County Justice of Peace, and his church as deacon at Emory Baptist Church. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, working in his garden, riding his tractor, and reading his Bible.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Mark Smith and wife Dana, Matt Smith and wife Sherry, Jeff Smith and wife Megan, daughter Yolanda Smith Means and husband Mark; brother Gregg Johnson and wife Grace; grandchildren, Grayson, Clayton, Cole, Brooklyn, Hayden Smith and Jodi Means McDonald; great grandchildren, Rhett Land, Henna McDonald and Joplyn McDonald.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marshall Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at Emory Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Piles officiating. Honorary Pallbearers, Men’s Kitchen Class at Emory Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Family Life Center at Emory Baptist Church, 260 Planters St. Emory, TX 75440.
