Virginia Gene Shearer, lovingly called Ginger by many, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. Born on August 5th, 1944, in Oceanside, California, Virginia lived a life filled with grace, kindness and an unwavering spirit.
Virginia was a woman of refined elegance and strong will, which were qualities that defined her both personally and professionally. She held the position of Financial Controller and Sodexo for many years, where she approached her work with the same dedication and poise that marked every aspect of her life. While she perused some college education, her true wisdom shined far beyond the classroom, which was reflected in her ease of conversation and warm, approachable nature. She was truly easy to talk to, offering a great listening ear and kind, wise words for anyone who sought her company.
Known for her classy style and timeless beauty, Virginia never went anywhere without looking her best. She carried herself with elegance that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her friends and family cherished her sweet, kind spirit, recognizing her as someone who was well-liked and deeply loved.
One of Virginia’s passions was her beloved 1957 Ford Thunderbird. She delighted in taking it to parades and car shows, where its classy charm matched her own, and spent many hours maintaining it so it stayed in top shape. Beyond her love for vintage cars, she had a melodious voice and enjoyed singing, even joining a local choir in her area. She also found joy in caring for hummingbirds, always feeding them and watching them through her dining room window. Her fondness for all things nostalgic came to life through her affection toward Betty Boop and Elvis Presley, icons which she adored wholeheartedly.
Animals held a special place in Virginia’s heart; she was a devoted animal lover and rescuer, always ready to provide a safe, loving, and welcoming home for animals in need. She had two horses, which she loved with all her heart, as well as three rescue dogs, and two cows. Yet among her proudest accomplishments was not only her love for animals, but the deep commitment she made for family—especially in adopting her grandchildren, a testament to the boundless love and care she nurtured throughout life.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, William R. Shearer; daughter, Kimberly Walker; and her grandchildren, Kayla and Kourtney Shearer. She is preceded in death by her son, Edward Walker III and her brother, Gerald Ashby.
Virginia Gene Shearer will be remembered as a beacon of elegance, strength, and warmth. Her spirit lives in the memories of those she touched with her kindness and in the laughter shared over stories of her infectious charm. Though she has left this world, the imprint of her love and beauty—both inside and out—remains forever in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
