Ruth lived a life of her own making—a life marked by fun, adventure, and steadfast love for those closest to her.
Ruth Rouse, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Born on September 5, 1935, to Orville and Maxine Hooker in Kokomo Indiana, Ruth lived a life filled with adventure, generosity, and love—a life that she built for herself and her family with an indomitable spirit and kindness.
Ruth’s professional journey was defined by remarkable commitment and joy. For 25 years, she worked for Disney, shaping magical experiences for countless families and helping to open Animal Kingdom at Disney World, one of the highlights of her long and fulfilling career. Later, she brought her dedication and warmth to Disney Cruise lines, something that she would tell anyone she met about. Her affiliation with Disney was more than a job—it became a part of her family’s legacy and a treasured source of joyful memories for all who knew her.
Ruth worked tirelessly to raise her son, John, on her own. She took great pride in this accomplishment and considered John her proudest achievement, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth’s family was her world, and so was her faith. She loved the Lord and her church in Florida, and she read her bible every day, until she was no longer able to.
Ruth possessed a vibrant and outgoing personality that made her the heart of every gathering. She was fun, loving, generous, and kind. She approached life with an infectious zest, creating opportunities for joy whether through simple pleasures or grand adventures.

She had a passion for shelling on the beach, delighting in the treasures the tide would bring. No trip to Disney or a Disney Cruise was ever declined; these journeys, especially those shared with her family, were her way of giving back and making cherished memories. She often expressed that spending time at Disney with her loved ones was her special gift to the family. Even at age 90, she eagerly participated in a trip this past December, embodying her unwavering enthusiasm for life and togetherness.
Always ready for a challenge at the Rummikub table, Ruth could play for hours, inviting family and friends or anyone willing to join her in this beloved pastime. Any gathering was made better by her presence, wit, and playful spirit.
Ruth is survived by her son, John Rouse and wife, Janice; grandchildren, John Rouse and wife, Corbin, Jill Smith and husband, Hunter; great-grandchildren, Darbi Jae, Tucker James, Charles Jackson, John Oliver; good friends, Kathie and husband Steve, and her dear cousin, Diana.
