Phyllis Emig

Phyllis Marie Emig, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, just a few months shy of her 96th birthday. Born on October 29, 1929 the day the stock market crashed, to Charles and Lottie Wire (Oberdier) in Thomasville, Pennsylvania, Phyllis lived a life that reflected the generous spirit and unwavering faith that defined her. Her belief in Jesus Christ was the foundation upon which she built her days.

Phyllis dedicated herself to volunteering in Rains County in different ways such as for the Good Samaritans for 27 years, the Emory Volunteer Fire Department along side her husband Howard and oldest son, Ed, and she also volunteered at the Rains County Fair Association. She loved her community and being of service to those in it. She touched the hearts of countless individuals, offering her time and energy to those in need. She was a faithful member of Emory Baptist Church for 49 years where she served as the director WMU for several years and poured her heart into teaching Sunday school, typing out her lessons on an old typewriter every week. Phyllis was always looking for a way to share her heart of service.

Phyllis was truly a unique individual, embodying the perfect blend of humor and generosity. She was known for her ability to lighten any room with her cackling laughter, making those around her feel cherished and valued. Her kindness extended beyond her volunteering; she was always there for her family, giving of herself without hesitation. Phyllis loved to watch RFD, often revisiting rodeos that held a special place in her heart. She loved sewing and crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and giving her beautiful handmade afghans as Christmas gifts to her family and as baby shower and wedding gifts. She was especially devoted to reading her Bible, immersing herself in her faith and drawing strength from its teachings.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Emig and wife Carolyn; Thomas Emig, Donald Emig and wife Cathy; 10 grandchildren; 14 great– grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild with another on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her loving husband, her “sweetheart”, Howard Emig; parents, Charles and Lottie (Oberdier) Wire; sons, Roger (Bud) Emig, Daniel Emig, David Emig and 10 brothers and sisters.

Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will remember her not only for her warm-heartedness but also for the lasting mark she left on the community. Her spirit will forever resonate in the lives she touched and the faith she inspired. As we celebrate her remarkable journey, we find comfort in the knowledge that her sweet presence will continue to live on in our hearts and that she is now in the arms of Jesus.

A funeral service will be held at Emory Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11 A.M. A Visitation will be held a hour prior at 10 A.M. at Emory Baptist Church. Interment will follow the funeral service at Emory City Cemetery.
