Nell Giles

February 19, 1925 — October 31, 2018

Nell Garrett Giles (aka "Mamaw") was born on February 19, 1925 in Point, TX. Her parents were David Lyle "Tonie" and Flora Estelle Strong Garrett. Nell was the youngest of 9 children and she was the valedictorian of her graduating class. Although she received numerous college scholarships, she chose to go to work to help support our country during the war. She was a proud Texan and an even prouder American. She moved to Dallas immediately after high school and worked many years as a secretary for the Katy Railroad. She spent her years in retirement attending all of her grandkids and great-grandkids sporting and school events. She was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Her favorite activities included attending the State Fair of Texas every year, and most importantly singing and dancing at over 60 Willie Nelson concerts! She was the first to arrive and the last to leave all of his shows, and enjoyed getting her picture taken with him many times. He even knew her by name. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. Nell was truly one of a kind and will be terribly missed by so many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tonie and Flora Garrett; her husband, J.W. Giles, her twin brother, D.L. Garrett III; her brother, Raymond Garrett; and her sisters, Elsie Mae Garrett, Gladys Jennings, Olivia Bishop; Myrle Eads; Maree Gorman; and Opal Douglas. She is survived by her daughter, Tonie Gray; her grandsons, David Martin and Jeff Garrett; her granddaughters, and their spouses, Jennifer & Jason Andrew, Tammy & John Perdomo, Sarah & Michael Spross, and Adrianne & Michael Ferguson; her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Riley, Erin, Erica, Eddie, Chloe Nell, Lilly, Jace, Morgan, Jonathan, Melanie, London, Harlow, Jude and Joel Garrett
