Mertis Clayton

Mertis Faye Clayton, age 81, of Emory, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017, at ETMC in Quitman. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 1:00 PM, at Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Emory. Rev. W. R. Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2017, 5-7 PM, at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory.

Mertis was born on September 17, 1936, in Emory, to Lonnie and Mattie Thornton Robinson. She graduated from St. Paul High School in Neylandville, Texas. She was baptized and was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church. She married R.V. "Dap" Clayton in Point (Richland) in 1956, and to this 60 year union was born two wonderful sons. Mertis was a retired mail carrier out of the Emory, Texas, United States Postal Service.

Survivors include:
Loving and devoted husband: R.V. "Dap" Clayton of Emory;
Youngest son: Connie Clayton of Emory;
God-son: Lauston Garrett (Aurelie) of Emory;
God-granddaughter: Ava Stevenson of Savannah, GA;
2 Sisters: Doris Anderson and Willene Mornes both of Emory;
A host of nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews;
Numerous other loving family and friends.
