Melvin John Shumate, 86, of Emory, Texas passed away on January 12, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 22, 1936, in Rains County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Shumate; brother, Marvin: sisters, Marcelle and Mauretta; Mother of his children, Shirley and great grandson, Jacob.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Wanda; son, Dennie; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and husband, Randy Taylor; stepdaughters, Belinda and Tonya; three grandchildren, Cory Taylor and wife Mande, Christina and husband, Jimbo, Cooper, Mitchell and wife, Destiny; sister, Merlene Johnson; and five great-grandchildren, Auburn, Marley, Dani, Jace, Skylar and Dylan; and great-great granddaughter, Mercy Jo.
