Margaret Ann Lair, a beloved mother and Nanny, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on January 10, 1947, to Claude and Lota Cason (Rabe) in Point, Texas. Margaret was known for her spirited personality, described lovingly by those who knew her as a "spit fire" and "spunky." Her kindness, selflessness and generosity were evident in her everyday actions, as she was always a giver, eager to lend a helping hand or share her warm smile. Margaret Ann was married to her high school sweetheart, Idus Lair for more than 30 years before his passing. She later married, Clyde Riley, and spent many years with him before his passing.
Margaret Ann had a remarkable ability to bring people together, evident in her many accomplishments within the community. For years, she dedicated herself to hosting events that fostered joy and connection, from Easter egg hunts that delighted children to firework shows that lit up the night sky. She transformed her home into a welcoming space for all, orchestrating occasions like the haunted hayride and “Christmas with the Cason’s” at the Cotton-Pickin’ Theater, she made every gathering memorable with her vibrant spirit.
She was a lifetime member of Clarks Chapel Church of God in Flats, Texas and was the church clerk for over 20 years. Margaret Ann also had a passion for the track races, where she supported her favorite cars as a sponsor. She also enjoyed going to her children and then later grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with her family; and her presence always signaling the need for a fresh pot of coffee to be brewed.
Margaret Ann’s greatest pride came from her family. She was proud of the family she came from and the strong roots she had growing up, as the baby of her 10 siblings. As she got older, she created a family of her own and she cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in each moment shared together.
She is survived by her children, LaTonna Drake, Curt; grandchildren, J.C White, Brittainy Thomas and Kevin, Karissa Wray, Baylee Bookman and Billy, Presley Keith and Issaic, Audie McAree; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kinzlee, Kaemon, Kadence, Kruze, Kyri Jo, Austen; siblings, Kenneth Cason, Paul Cason, Jerry Don Cason, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Margaret Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Idus Lair; second-husband, Clyde Riley, parents, Claude and Lota Cason; daughters, Jean Ann Hockaday, Kimbrala Jo Lair; siblings, Preston Cason, Bobby Lee Cason, Joe Ben Cason, Christine Hayes, Linda Kay Childers and Maureen Cason.
As we remember Margaret Ann Lair, we celebrate a woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to bringing people together. Her legacy of kindness and selfless generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. As she will be missed deeply here on Earth, we find peace in knowing that we will spend eternity together.
