Larry Don Hooten, a beloved husband, friend, and pillar of his community, passed away on June 12, 2026, at Christus Hospital in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Born on December 20, 1939, in Lone Oak, Texas, to Enos Franklin Hooten and Jessie Lee Parker Hooten, Larry Don lived a life marked by steadfast devotion to his family, faith, and work.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Brenda Jane Hooten; sons, Scott Hooten and wife Rachelle, Lance Hooten and wife Shelly; grandchildren, Emily Heinrichs and husband Nathan, Jake Hooten and wife Jacey, Kara McCasland and husband Devon, Luke Hooten and wife Kylie, Anna Krantz and husband Mason, Zack Hooten; great grandchildren, Olive Heinrichs, Arlo Heinrichs, Isla Rue Heinrichs, Henry Heinrichs, Jensen “Bob” Hooten, Layton “Petie” Hooten, Wade McCasland, Sage McCasland; brothers, Dail Hooten, Teddy Joe Hooten and Gaye as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Larry Don remember him as a best friend—tough yet undeniably loving. He was steadfast and reliable, a man you could always count on. His strength was tempered by affection, making it clear to everyone around him just how deeply he cared. Larry Don’s proudest accomplishments were centered on God, family, and church, reflecting the warm, grounded nature that guided his actions throughout life.

A proud graduate of Point High School in Point, Texas in 1958, Larry Don furthered his education with an agricultural teaching certificate from East Texas State University. His commitment to serving his country was demonstrated through his military service in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, a period that shaped his sense of discipline and loyalty.

Larry Don’s career was deeply rooted in family and hard work. Together with his brother, they owned Hooten’s Automatic Transmission in Richardson, Texas, a venture they managed with dedication. Yet, no matter where life took him, Larry Don’s heart belonged to the land; after his time in the business, he famously never wanted to get off the tractor. Plowing and shredding became more than chores—they were a passion that he embraced fully. Even just two months before his passing, he spent eight hours on the tractor, a testament to his enduring vigor and love for the agricultural life he cherished. When not tending to his fields, Larry Don found joy in fishing, another quiet pleasure that connected him with nature’s tranquility.

Larry Don’s athletic ability remains a proud chapter in his life. He holds the record as the highest-scoring basketball player with an astounding 144 points over three games in the Emory Lions Club Basketball tournament. Later continuing his athletic prowess at Paris Jr. College. This achievement echoes his fierce determination and competitive spirit.
