Point

Memorial service for Juanita Blake, age 93, of Point, will be held at the Wilson Orwosky Chapel Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 2:00 pm.

Nita was born on October 6, 1928, to Marvin Kuykendall and Bessie Lorene Chastain in Abernathy, Texas. She died on September 17, 2022, at her residence in Point, Texas.  Nita was a member of the First Baptist Church of Point and she worked for Taylor Publishing for 16 years. She married Bill Blake Jr. in 1948 in Lubbock, Texas. They then moved to and lived in Dallas, Tx but wanted a quieter life after 30 years of living in the big city and decided to move to Point in 1984.

She was more than a mother and a grandmother, she was the keeper of secrets, the one you went to for advice, the one who taught everyone how to cook and do the laundry. She loved to dance, especially the Waltz and always did so with her son Joel.  Nita was an absolute lover of books; her favorites were romance novels. Other hobbies were cooking, it was a true passion for her, and everything she made was amazing!  She also loved to sew and crochet in her younger years. She spent her early career as a book binder with Taylor Publishing for 16 years, after retirement she devoted herself to be a homemaker. She loved her family, and she leaves behind a legacy for her friends and family to remember her by.

She is survived by her sons, Joel Blake and wife Patty, Johnny Blake, James Blake and wife Gisela; daughter, Janice Steward and husband Roger; granddaughters, Tonya Buchanan and husband David, Heather Bales and husband Brandon, Chelsea Cervera and husband Victor, Shana Duke, Malina Opp, Daphne Steitle, Wendy Stahl, Halie Werge and husband Tom and Stacy Taylor; grandsons, Chad Blake, Phillip Blake and wife Lori, Montana Blake, Madrid Blake, Michael Bobo and wife Karen, Chris Bobo and wife Tandy, Andrew Crocker and Ben Taylor; 35 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren

Nita is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Blake Jr.; parents, Marvin and Bessie Lorene Kuykendall; son, Jimmy Blake; daughter, Judy Bobo; 4 brothers and 3 sisters and granddaughter, Nikaela.
