Jimmie Dean Smith, fondly known as Jimmie Smith, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at his residence in Emory, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 11, 1944, in the very town where he spent his life — just 100 yards from the place he took his last breath — Jimmie’s story was one of deep roots and genuine connection.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith; children, Toni Threadgill and husband Dennis, Dwayne Smith and wife Marie; grandchildren, Grayson Smith, Clayton Smith and wife Gabrielle, Makayla Threadgill, Autumn Threadgill, Courtney Kearby and husband Caleb, Caleb smith and wife Meme; great grandchildren, Carson Smith, Meredith Kearby, Anna Kearby; siblings, Billy Smith and wife D'Andra, Jo Ann Martin and husband Ray as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege to know Jimmie will gather to honor his memory during services on May 9, 2026, at Pilgrims Rest #1 Baptist Church in Emory, TX. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 pm. The interment will take place at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery at 3:30 pm.

Jimmie Dean Smith leaves behind a legacy of sincerity, humor, adventure, and love. His life was a reflection of his straightforward spirit and the deep connections he cultivated throughout his years. Though he will be deeply missed, those who loved him will carry forward the many stories, laughs, and lessons he so generously shared.

Rest in peace, Jimmie — your journey was lived fully, and you were truly one of a kind.
