Jerry Turner, 85, of Yantis, passed away Wednesday, September 23 at his home. Memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 26 at the Lake Fork Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Meek will officiate. Interment will be at a later date, still pending, in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Nacogdoches.
Jerry was born in Kilgore, Texas on June 27, 1935 to Morris Turner and Alma Clark Turner. He got his bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin. He married Shelley Turner in Nacogdoches on October 19, 1974, second marriages for both. They created a loving, blended family that has lasted some 40 years. Jerry served in the Armed Forces and was a proud veteran.
Jerry and Shelley moved to Dallas, TX in 1977, then to Montgomery, AL in 1979 and Richmond, VA in 1981 before moving back to Arlington, TX in 1985. They retired to Lake Fork in 1997. They made lasting, lifelong friendships wherever they lived.
Jerry was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church. He retired from Hormel Meat Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Yantis and Kilgore. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include Daughters: Selena Stanley Bolton, and husband, Tom, of Pearland, Susan Stanley Dodson of Ft. Worth, and Robin Turner Aboitiz, and husband Mikel, of Cebu, Philippines; Sons: Bobby M. Stanley, and wife, Kim, of Moyock, NC, and John E. Turner, and wife, Anne, of Poetry; Brother Larry Turner and wife Joyce of Kilgore, 14 Grandchildren: Michael Bolton, Bradley Bolton, Gary Marron, Jeremy Marron, Kyle Marron, Natalie Dodson, Jonathan Stanley, Justin Stanley, Jessica Stanley, Joshua Turner, David Aboitiz, Caroline Aboitiz, Nicolas Aboitiz and Sara Aboitiz; 8 Great-grandchildren: Jeremy Jay, Michael, Paisley, Mason, Connor, Olivia, Isabel and Abigail; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Eddie Turner, and sister Marilyn Watson.
Honorary Pallbearers: grandsons, Gary, Jeremy & Kyle Marron, Jonathan and Justin Stanley, Michael and Bradley Bolton, Josh Turner, David and Nicolas Aboitiz.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lake Fork Baptist Church or the Hopkins County Coalition.
