Gail Johnson, lovingly known as Granny Gail, passed away on August 12, 2023, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas. She was born on November 25, 1939, in Whitewright, Texas to Beauford "Boots" Adair and Novell Marie Senter.  She married the love of her life, "Sonny" William Lin Johnson, on October 4, 1957.

Gail's early career began at Allstate and Rains ISD as an administrative assistant. A dedicated and hardworking individual, she always found the time to watch her children play sports while excelling in her profession.

Education played a significant role in Gail's life. At the young age of 5, she attended Frog Pond School in Lone Oak, Texas. As time went on, she became the valedictorian of her graduating class at L.D. Bell High School. Despite her short stature, Gail was a remarkable basketball player and left an impression on the court.

Outside of her professional and educational pursuits, Gail enjoyed various hobbies and interests. Playing bingo brought her joy and excitement, as she spent quality time engaging with others in the spirit of friendly competition. Trips to the casino added an element of thrill to her life, while visits to Hobby Lobby sparked creativity and enabled her to explore her artistic side. An appreciator of solitude, Gail cherished moments spent sitting outside by herself, taking in the beauty of nature.

One of Gail's proudest accomplishments was being a mother and grandmother. She held deep love for her children and grandchildren and took great pride in sharing their achievements with others. Her dedication to family was unwavering throughout her life.

When reflecting upon cherished memories of Gail, one cannot help but recall the time when she decided to get her hair done and returned with an Afro hairstyle that surprised everyone around her. This moment reflects Gail's spontaneity and willingness to embrace change with a sense of humor. Additionally, sitting around with family, sharing stories and singing together created countless moments of joy and harmony.

She is survived by her children, William Johnson, Kelley Courtney, Traci Rowland and husband Dereck, and Todd Johnson and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, William Cole Johnson, Jamie Lin Camp-Johnson, Gina Marie Childress, Kandace Marie Rodgers and husband Mario Campos, Karmen Franklin and husband Eric, Kimberely Nicole Blue and husband Keith, Anthony Michael Black and wife Kristen, Chelsea Dawn Wilson, Addison Currey, Ashten Johnson and Sydnee Johnson; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, Edward Adair and wife Carol and Randy Adair and wife Lisa; and sister, Carol Adair Wise.

Gail is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Sonny" Lin Johnson; parents, Beauford Adair and Novell Senter Adair; son, Tony Johnson; brothers, Ronnie Adair, and Jackie Adair; and sister, Phyllis Rains.

Gail's life will be celebrated in a "Celebration of Life" event on August 19, 2023, at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Emory, Texas. The service will commence at 11:00 am and will allow friends, family, and loved ones to honor her memory and pay tribute to the extraordinary person she was.
