Obituary

Geneva lived a life defined by unwavering faith, strength beyond measure, and an extraordinary devotion to her family.

Geneva Nell Self, a beloved mother, grandmother, matriarch, and faithful servant of God, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 17, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103.

Born on August 5, 1923, in Tira, Texas to Nola Pearl (Chapman) Watson and Walter Eugene Watson. Geneva lived a life defined by unwavering faith, strength beyond measure, and an extraordinary devotion to her family. A dedicated member of Emory Baptist Church, her deep love for God was the guiding light in everything she did. After she could no longer attend, she was faithful to pray each day for her church. She also worked for Wilson-Orwosky Funeral home for a few years. She was a hard worker with a generous, fun-loving spirit—a true friend to all who knew her, whose warmth and joy made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

Above all else, family was Geneva’s focus and heart's treasure. As the strong and cherished matriarch of her family, she leaves behind a rich legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sharon Ann Bryant, and husband Bob; grandson, Keith Bryant and wife Tammy; granddaughters, Kimberly Steiger and husband Shane, and Kristy Kinney and husband Perry.

To celebrate the amazing life of Nell, the family invites you to wear her favorite color, purple to the service.

She was the proud great-grandmother to Robert (Katelynn), Tyler, Matthew (Tori) Bryant, Gavin Steiger, and Michael and Maverick Kinney; and the blessed great-great-grandmother to Gracelyn, Charlotte, Luke, Faith Ann, Everlye, Gunner Bryant, and Baylor Steiger.

Geneva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LT Self; her precious great grandsons, Timothy and Caleb Bryant; and her great-great granddaughter, Mckinlee Bryant, as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends who were waiting to welcome her home.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes great comfort in knowing she left this world surrounded by those who loved her and is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord, having lived a full, faith-filled life of 103 blessed years.

To celebrate the amazing life of Nell, the family invites you to wear her favorite color, purple to the service.

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed... a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” — Proverbs 31:28, 30

Please consider making a donation to the Emory Baptist building fund in her honor.
