Eric Scott Essary, born on September 18, 1992, in Sulphur Springs, was a man whose life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an old soul's wisdom. He quietly walked the path of life with a steadfast commitment to those he loved and to the work he took on, passing away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at Christus Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
Eric’s journey began in the heart of Sulphur Springs, where he first grew roots and memories that would stand the test of time. A graduate of Rains High School, he carried with him the values and knowledge he gained, which shaped the man he became.
His career was spent mostly in corrections—a challenging and often difficult field, but one Eric confronted with unwavering resolve. It was a tough job, demanding both strength and compassion, and he persevered with a quiet dedication that spoke volumes about his character.
Outside of his professional life, Eric found joy in the simple and profound pleasures of the outdoors. Camping under open skies, fishing by riversides, and the satisfaction of fixing things with his hands filled his days with purpose and peace. Collecting lanterns became a cherished hobby, each one a small beacon of light in the tapestry of his life.
Among his fondest memories was a train ride from Grapevine to Fort Worth, followed by a day wandering through the bustling stock yards—moments that painted his love for exploration and the joy of discovery.
Above all else, Eric loved his family. He was devoted to Cayli and all his family, considering being with them as one of his proudest accomplishments. His heart was full when around those he cared for, and it was there that his true self shone brightest.
Eric is survived by Cayli Wagenhauser; children, Xander and Xayne Essary; brother, Matt Essary and wife Robyn; nieces and nephews, Raylan and Ella Grace Essary; friend, Ricky Griffith
Eric Scott Essary’s life was a blend of strength, kindness, and quiet perseverance. He leaves behind memories of an old soul who knew the value of dedication, knowledge, and most of all, love. He will be remembered warmly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
