Cumby

Leah Denise Davis, lovingly known as Denise, 72, peacefully passed away at her home on June 21, 2026, in Cumby, Texas, surrounded by her family. Born on June 30, 1953, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Aston Buck and Opal Woodard Buck, Denise’s journey through life was marked by faith, love, and unwavering dedication to those she cherished.

To Denise, family wasn’t just part of her life, it was her entire life. She was happiest when her house was filled with laughter. Denise loved to travel, finding great joy in planning and taking family vacations every year. She cherished watching her children and grandchildren having fun, never missing an opportunity to attend their sporting events and activities. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed treating others to her delicious home-cooked meals and hosting family gatherings.

Her journey was not without challenge, but Denise always moved forward with hope and positivity. She took immense pride in the simple pleasures: gathering with family, quiet moments of reflection, and celebrations of each new day. Her compassion knew no bounds, extending warmth not only to the people around her but to every animal she nurtured. Denise’s proudest accomplishment was being a mother and Gran.

Denise is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley Davis; daughter, Mandy Riley and husband Nolan; grandchildren, Phelan Davis, Lincoln Riley, Jackson Riley, Benjamin Riley, and Madison Riley; sister, Barbara Hobbs.

She was preceded in death by her son, Wesley Davis; her parents, Aston and Opal Buck; and her brother, Tommy Buck.

Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that Denise is completely healed and in the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ. Her legacy of unwavering faith, fierce love, and grace in times of trial will live on in all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at The Diamond at Star E Ranch in Cumby, Texas on Saturday, July 25, at 4:00 p.m., followed by a BBQ dinner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Plains Wild Life Rehabilitation Center in Lubbock, Texas or the American Cancer Society in her memory.
