Obituary

Leonard Guy "Chuck" Gross passed away peacefully at his home in Emory, Texas, on August 16, 2026. Born on December 16, 1929, in Stoneham, Colorado, Leonard, fondly known as Chuck, lived a long, fulfilling life defined by hard work, deep devotion to family and faith, and an abundance of cherished memories.

A proud veteran, Chuck retired after an impressive 20 years of service in the Air Force. During his military years, he took the opportunity to attend college, demonstrating not only dedication to his country but a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.

After his military career, Chuck embarked on a successful journey in construction, leaving his mark on the Dallas skyline by building the iconic Spaghetti Warehouse. But it was his skill and determination closer to home that highlighted his greatest pride—building his own house, a testament to his craftsmanship, perseverance, and desire to create a place where his family could gather, learn, and celebrate life.

Chuck was known by all who met him as a lucky man and a tireless worker, someone as personable as he was well loved— And who loved deeply in return. From this beautiful connection grew a 42-year love story with the love of his life, Doris. They were married on July 3, 1984, in Plano, Texas, and together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. Theirs was a love that could be felt in every chapter of their lives together—a love that truly seemed to be written in the volumes of their hearts. His gracious spirit and warm presence enriched the lives of those around him, and he took particular joy in sharing his passions with his loved ones. An avid fisherman, Chuck spent countless hours on the water, teaching his family about lakes and water sports. Later in life, he found delight in playing dominoes, creating new traditions and laughter.

Many treasured memories were made along the way, such as memorable fishing tournaments with his son Earl—while they never claimed a trophy, the joy and camaraderie they shared were the real prizes.

Chuck’s life was strongly rooted in his faith. He loved the Lord dearly and was a devoted member of Lake Fork Baptist Church, drawing strength, community, and purpose through his stewardship and attendance.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 42 years, Doris Gross; children, Debbie, Rusty, Rick, Gary, Becky, Charla, Darrell; Sister, Evelyn and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Luther and Helen Gross; two siblings; daughter, baby girl and son, Earl Ellis.

All who knew Chuck would agree he truly loved his life and treasured the many years he was blessed to live. Though he is no longer physically with us, his legacy—built on a foundation of service, love, faith, and resilience—will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Details regarding services to honor and celebrate Chuck's life have not been provided at this time.
