Beloved husband and father Bill Genson passed away after a prolonged illness, Monday, June 15th, 2026, at the Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX. Bill was born at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on February 16th, 1942, in Spencer, Iowa. His parents lived in Iowa, where he spent his childhood. After attending school, he soon joined the US Marines. Following his recruitment at Fort Pendleton, CA, he was stationed aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA-31 and served in many ports, including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Boom Bay, Singapore, India, and many other places too numerous to mention. Bill loved working with his daughter, LaRena, showing dogs, and helping his son, Shad, with 4-H projects and multiple building projects. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, photography, football, and painting. He credits the US Marine Corps with instilling in him honesty, a strong work ethic, and a love of country.
Bill and LaDonna were married for 60 years and spent time together raising their children and traveling all over the world. Bill was always there to volunteer his time and expertise on many projects, from drafting new constructions to fixing the smallest devices no one else could fix. He loved his family and grandchildren and offered to assist them with any projects they had. After his enlistment in the service, he worked as a salesperson and greenskeeper at the Scottsdale Golf Club. Golf became one of his favorite hobbies. He then returned to his hometown, where he worked at a local TV facility and later at Olivetti-Underwood, selling and repairing typewriters and computers. He married LaDonna in 1966 and continued his education at Emmetsburg Community College, where he studied drafting. Later, he attended Iowa State University as well. After studying and working for Morton Buildings, he established his own company, Genson Construction, where he served as a master builder, specializing in remodeling homes in North Dallas. He and LaDonna moved to Plano, Texas, where he continued to run his business with his son, Shad, for the next 10 years.
Bill is survived by his wife, LaDonna of Point, TX; his daughter, LaRena Phillips and son-in-law, David Phillips; his son, Shad Genson and daughter-in-law, Kailey Genson; his four grandchildren, LaKayla, Kylee, Lucas, and Pheonix; a sister-in-law, Dee Olsen, and brother-in-law, John Olsen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
