Betty J.
Northcutt
May 24, 1936 – April 27, 2026
Betty Joyce Northcutt passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at Briarcliff Health Center with her family by her side at the age of 89. She will be sorely missed but her family and friends know that she is in the presence of her Lord and no longer suffering. It is the thought of reunification that sustains them.
Betty was born on May 24,1936 in Dallas, Texas to Jessie C. Ballard and Beatrice Dixie Kirby. She was the second oldest of four children. She graduated from Lancaster High School where she met her lifelong friends Juanita and Shirley. She married the love of her life, Oren Van Northcutt, in 1954. They welcomed their son, Ron Northcutt in 1955 and Terry Northcutt in 1957. They completed their family when Judy Kay Northcutt Lance was born in 1967. Betty raised her family and was blessed to have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Betty had many jobs throughout her life. She was fired from her first job at the local 5 and Dime for sampling the candy. She worked for Southwestern Bell, Contel Telephone company, Cash Water SUD and lastly at Century Computer with her son and granddaughter. But her most important job was being a mother and a grandmother. She devoted her life to her family.
Betty was a woman of many taste, interest and hobbies. She loved the Cowboys (even when they weren’t winning) and the Texas Rangers. She enjoyed country music, reading mysteries and watching movies. She could sew and make just about anything Judy found on Pinterest. She loved all animals. She had many pets in her lifetime from birds, to cats, dogs and horses. She never turned away a stray.
Betty loved hosting family gatherings at her home in Point, Texas where she lived for 56 years. She would cook up a storm for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Sunday Dinners at Grandmother Betty’s. She was famous for her homemade ice cream and banana pudding. She enjoyed having her family around her and made everyone feel welcome.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her ex-husband Oren Northcutt, her son Terry Northcutt and grandson Jake Scudder.
She is survived by her son Ron Northcutt of Caddo Mills and daughter Judy Lance (husband Tom) of Point. She leaves behind her grandchildren Jess Northcutt of Richardson, Jill Scudder (husband Stephan) of Blue Ridge, Jessica Houk of Tulsa, Amanda Gonzales of Caddo Mills, Lea Ochoa (husband Tiger) of Greenville, Rachel Lee of Boston, Bessie Schroeder (husband Michael) of Lewisville and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
