Annie L. Johnson, a cherished figure in her community and beloved family member, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Emory, Texas at the age of 95. Born on July 7, 1930, to Quillie C. Wade and Fannie F. Gowin in Rains County, Annie was an embodiment of love, creativity, and simplicity, traits that shone brightly in every aspect of her life.
Annie, whose maiden name was Wade, dedicated her life to being a supportive farmers wife and was known for always being there for everyone. Her nurturing presence extended beyond her family; she played an integral role in her community, famously organizing the bluegrass festival for the volunteer fire department.
A proud member of Dunbar School in the Dunbar Community and a member of Church of Christ in Emory. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Annie will remember her as loving, artistic, thrifty, and simple. Her talents blossomed in her vegetable garden, where she found joy in canning, cooking, and baking. Later in life she indulged herself in Dr. Peppers. Always seen with one.
Annie’s life revolved around her family, which she considered her proudest accomplishment. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Daren Davis and Carrie, Michelle Burns and Don, Coy Terry and Carmen; great-grandchildren, Bentley Davis and Samantha, Adrian Pena and Leah, Autumn Costley and Josh, Sean Terry, Leo Terry, Breana Burns, and six great-great-grandchildren
Visitation will be held on September 5, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Wilson - Orwosky Funeral Home, located at 803 N. Texas St., Emory, TX 75440. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM, with interment at Dunbar Cemetery at 421 Co Rd 1301, Emory, TX 75440 at 2:00 PM.
Annie L. Johnson’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched through her kindness, creativity, and unwavering support for others. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
