Teaching was not simply a profession, but a calling at the very center of her life.
Anita Kay Stripling, born June 29, 1945 in Greenville, Texas to James Wesley Stripling and Geneva Faye Stripling (Garmon), passed away on October 18, 2026.
Kay will be remembered as a woman for whom teaching was not simply a profession, but a calling at the very center of her life. She was a teacher for 24 years before retiring from Quinlan ISD. She attended East Texas, North Texas and Mountainview Colleges. She acquired a bachelor’s degree in education and floral design as well as a master’s degree in writing thesis. The gift she gave through education reached far beyond the classroom. She taught ESL not only in schools, but also at churches, sharing her knowledge with patience, care, and a genuine desire to help others grow. Teaching and her faith were among her proudest accomplishments, and both shaped the way she lived and loved. She was someone who loved everyone and, in return, was loved very much. The kindness she extended to others left a lasting impression. She inspired many and in return was inspired.
Outside of her work, Kay found joy in genealogy, painting, and playing the piano. She was a member of DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution, Brig. General Edward Bulkley Chapter of Greenville, Texas. Kay owned a clothing and antique store in Sulphur Springs. These interests reflected her thoughtful spirit, her creativity, and her appreciation for beauty, history, and connection. Whether she was tracing family roots, expressing herself through art, or filling a room with music, she brought warmth and meaning to the moments she shared.
Kay is survived by her sister, Jeanetta Smith; brother, James Richard Stripling and Sandy; nieces and nephews, Austin Lee Smith and Whitney, Kimberly Hollar and Ron, M.W. Stripling and Michelle; great nieces and nephews, Hayden Hollar and Ajla, Brady Hollar and McKenzie, Wesley Hollar and Sydney, Jacob Stripling, Kaitlyn Stripling, Audrey Stripling and Payton Stripling.
The gift she gave through education reached far beyond the classroom.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, James Wesley and Geneva Faye Stripling; brother-in-law, Sterling Smith and many other family members who greeted her with a glorious reunion alongside her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Anita’s life was marked by service, faith, and a generous heart. She leaves behind the memory of a life lived with purpose and compassion, and her influence will continue in the many people she taught, encouraged, and loved. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
